HSIS seal victory at The Heathcare Design Awards

HSIS are in jubilation after beating their competitors and sealing victory at the Altro Design Awards.

Their design of mental health spaces at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital was selected as the award-winning scheme. Judges on the panel expressed admiration for HSIS’ use of pastel colours and, innovation in bedroom design, to create a warm and relaxing environment for service users.

“This year we were particularly focused on designs that promoted the wellbeing of people using the spaces. The way HSIS have created a homely feel to these clinical areas is fantastic and it will really resonate well with patients.” said Karen Dean from Altro.

Barry Cleminson, HSIS Project Manager who delivered the scheme, added,

“We always put the needs of our service users first and that is reflected in our design. From the layout of the rooms, to the colours on the walls. In everything we do, we have rehabilitation in mind. The building environment can have a major impact on the recovery process, so it’s exhilarating to receive recognition for the effects our designs are having on emotional wellbeing.”

Since the site opened in December 2018, it’s been home to a number of service users supporting them on the road to a healthy recovery. Lancashire has one of the largest mental health services in the UK and being based in the region has helped HSIS stay one step ahead of its competitors in mental health design.
