HSIS Supported Development of New Mother and Baby Unit

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust was one of only 4 Trusts in England to have been selected to provide a new perinatal inpatient service and HSIS were delighted to provide the project management for this development. This was an important development for the Trust and for both expectant and new mums living in Lancashire who required mental health provision. The new facility will meant that mum and baby could be cared for together by specialist staff within their home county instead of having to travel to receive this specialist care or being separated from their baby. Chorley Hospital

This £3.8m project involved major reconfiguration and refurbishment of three existing old and tired wards to provde 30 adult beds and 6 psychiatric intensive care beds for women with private bedrooms and bathrooms, therapy spaces and garden access.  The work took place within the former Oakfield Unit, the hospital's previous mental health unit which was closed in 2015 and transferred to The Harbour. The newly refurbished wards opened in December 2018.

The Harbour, Fylde Coast

This is the Trust's flagship facility and provides 154 beds from its site at Blackpool and was a completely new construction just off junction 4 of the M55.  The functional acute mental health wards accommodate patients from the age of 18 experiencing acute mental illness requiring inpatient care.  The facility also incorporates dementia wards accommodating patients who require the relational, physical care and security that an inpatient ward can provide.  The PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit) provides an environment of a higher relational, physical and procedural security inorder to safely care and treat patients who are acutely unwell, posing a higher risk to...

Future Projects and Work in Progress

Avondale Unit, Royal Preston Hospital Work is well under way on the complete refurbishment of the former Arkwright Unit at ATS areas at Royal Preston Hospital.  This will create an 11 bedded rehabilitation unit.  Due for occupation - Spring 2020. Wesham Rehabilitation Hospital, Wesham, Fylde Coast Refurbishment and construction of new mental health facility incorporating 28 beds.  This project is currently at business case level.  If the project proceeds, there is a proposal occupation date of Summer 2021.

Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust

Following the transfer of mental health services which also included 12 core sites and 28 satellite sites to Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust (now LSCFT) on 31 October 2019, HSIS are reviewing all of these sites with a view to commencing a programme of improvements and updates to facilities. This will greatly improve service delviery, promoting recovery and patient experience.
