Mental Health Inpatient Reconfiguration

Over the last 10 years Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust has been continually improving its Mental Health Inpatient Services and working to increase the support people can access within the community.  This has involved relocating and refurbishing wards which are no longer fit for purpose, into new specially designed facilities in five Lancashire localities.  HSIS is extremely proud to have provided project management and commissioning for these schemes.

The Orchard, Lancaster

The Orchard underwent significant redevelopment to become a Mental Health Inpatient Unit for adults as part of the Trust's commitment to provide modern health care across the county.  The facility provides 18 beds in the north of the county and is supported by a high quality specialist commnity based service with a single point of access for people in crisis. This facility opened in August 2014.

The Cove, Lancaster

The Cove is another facility that underwent major redevelopment to provide an 18 bedded specialist Inpatient Unit for young people between the ages of 13 and 18 who are experiencing a variety of complex mental health problems.  The facility opened in April 2017.

Hillview Unit, Royal Blackburn Hospital

Re-development of the Hillview facility providing an Inpatient service for Pennine Lancashire from this facility jointly with the Pendleview facility.  Created a new older adult ward and female assessment ward.  These wards opened September 2018.

All of these developments provide much improved environment and facilities for people accessing Mental Health Inpatient Services that promote recovery and an excellent patient experience.
