HSIS Supported Development of New Mother and Baby Unit

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust was one of only 4 Trusts in England to have been selected to provide a new perinatal inpatient service and HSIS were delighted to provide the project management for this development.

This was an important development for the Trust and for both expectant and new mums living in Lancashire who required mental health provision. The new facility will meant that mum and baby could be cared for together by specialist staff within their home county instead of having to travel to receive this specialist care or being separated from their baby.

The facility is co-located with existing maternity services and mental health services, with the Chorley Hospital site providing the ideal location. The existing building facades were refurbished and included a new feature garden to the front of the building.

Internally the existing facility underwent a complete refurbishment to bring it up to Trust’s safe standards for both staff and service users. The unit provides eight bedrooms with en-suites, communal dining and day space areas, sensory and quite rooms along with a separate nursery.

This facility opened in October 2018.

"These are exciting times for both Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust and HSIS. We’re delighted to be working in partnership to deliver these much needed specialist care units."
